OK so I’ll be honest, I nearly didn’t book this tour. I’d been to Thailand and Bali a bunch of times and wasn’t sure Vietnam would be all that different. My god, was I wrong. We did this tour in March, which I’d highly recommend. The weather in central Vietnam at that time of year is just chef’s kiss. Sunny, breezy, not the crazy humidity you get later in the year. Da Nang in particular was stunning. We spent a morning at My Khe Beach before heading inland and I genuinely did not want to leave. The water was so clear and warm, and the beach wasn’t packed at all; nothing like what you’d get on the Gold Coast in peak season! Hue was a highlight I wasn’t expecting. I’d read a bit about it beforehand but nothing really prepares you for walking through the Imperial Citadel. And then Hoi An. I don’t even know where to start. We arrived on the 14th and there was a mid-month lantern festival happening along the river (apparently they do it every full moon) and it’s not just a tourist thing, local families were all out too. We got tailor-made clothes done (obviously), ate cao lau approximately four times, hired bicycles and rode through the rice paddies at dawn. All the clichés, all worth it, no regrets. If you’re on the fence about doing central Vietnam, just do it. You won’t be sorry. Already planning to come back and do the north!
